“What You Seek Is Seeking You."

If I were to make a list of Top 10 Places To Visit in India, Amritsar would be right on top.

Life shines & glows in the beautiful city of Amritsar. Just like the shrine of Shri Harmandir Sahib.

More popularly known as The Golden Temple.

We landed into the city a few days ago on a balmy Friday afternoon.

Our first visit together as a family.

Since it was lunch time, our first stop was the famous Kulchaland. Food is something I will get back to later.

After freshening up at the hotel, we headed to our destination, The Golden Temple.

As soon as we reached the vicinity, the peace & calm that engulfed us cannot be expressed in words.

We were awed by the magical beauty & great divinity of the Gurudwara. At sunset, the Sarovar (lake) is a beautiful palette of water colors.

The vibe is spiritual rather than religious. Thousands of worshippers are sitting by the lake, lost in deep thought.

The Gurudwara is squeakily clean. The white marble glistens under the setting sun.

There is no chaos or frenzy. The temple is run with disciplined efficiency.

It’s a place to do some soul searching. Seek answers to your questions. Ask for blessings or forgiveness. Express gratitude or share sorrow. Love, guidance, comfort. What you seek, you will get.

For us, it was all that & more.

The queue to get inside the main shrine is as well managed as it can be. Once inside, you feel the presence of the all mighty. The soothing music of the kirtan fills up the shrine.

Harmandir Sahib is a spiritual experience like no other. I urge everyone to visit it at least once in a lifetime.

The next morning began with another visit to the Gurudwara. Perfect start to the day.

Evening was saved for something thrilling. A visit to the Attari Border. Also known as The Wagah Border.

10,000 Indians throng to see the Flag lowering ceremony in the evening. The atmosphere is electric.

The tallest & the most aggressive BSF soldiers perform the parade with utmost gusto. The intensity is matched by the Pakistani counterparts.

The gallery is reverberating with the sounds of “Jai Hind” & “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. Patriotism fills up the air.

It’s a heart thumping, blood pumping experience.

The next day was a quick shopping spree.

The popular Raunaq Jutti was our first stop. Intricately embroidered & vibrant Juttis line up the shelves. Modern Ikat prints, floral ditsy prints, textured juttis for men. There is something for everyone.

Anahita got a bright colored pair with little ghungroos.

The sales team is very charming & smooth. Be prepared to shop more than you actually need 🙂.

Kartar Singh in Hall Bazaar was our next stop.

If you want to buy the traditional Phulkari Dupattas, this is the place. Popular also for unstitched fabrics in soft cottons, cross-stitch embroideries & lovely prints.

Our short visit came to an end the same evening.

One of the few times, where Shravan n I felt that we needed a few more days to explore the city & its surroundings.

If reaching food heaven is your goal, Amritsari food is the path to take.

More details in the next blog. Wait for it 🙂.

Awesome foods, amazing places for shopping, so many devotional places, watch the parade at the Wagah Border- Amritsar is a place full of so many different things. Well, one needs to have the itinerary planned before heading to this city to explore all these places. Very nice post Mehak!

The Golden Temple is a very magical place and once being there, everybody can feel the divinity and presence of spirituality. While one can sense spirituality, a token of patriotism at the Wagah Border is what Amritsar presents to its visitors. Indeed a great place to be in!
